Wind speed increases significantly with height. If you are on the 10th floor, the wind pressure is nearly 2x higher than at ground level. Never use plastic zip-ties or "good enough" straps.

1. Hook-Over Brackets
The most popular renter-friendly option. Look for 304 or 316-grade stainless steel with anti-scratch rubber pads and safety tethers.
2. Ballasted A-Frames
Best for balcony floors. Requires heavy paving slabs (20kg+) per panel to prevent sliding or flipping.
Step-by-Step Safety Check
- 1Check Balcony Load Limits: Ensure your railing is structural and not just decorative. Standard UK balcony railings are rated for 0.74kN/m to 1.5kN/m load.
- 2Use Stainless Steel Hardware: Zinc-plated bolts will rust in the UK climate within 2 years. Only use Grade 304 or 316.
- 3Add a Secondary Safety Cable: A steel wire loop through the panel frame and around the balcony structure. If a bracket fails, the panel won't fall to the street.
Insurance Requirements
