Abruzzo is embracing renewable energy and investing millions in their clean energy future.
For small towns like Collarmele and Tocco da Casauria renewable energy is not just providing a clean source of energy; revenue from the wind farms is helping to sustain entire communities.
In Collarmele, which embraced renewables over a decade ago, the money coming in from the wind turbines is paying to restore buildings around the town, including the church recently damaged by an earthquake. The town’s marching band has a new rehearsal room, a recreation centre has recently opened as has a children’s play area.. As the mayor says, alternative energy is ensuring his community has a future.
In Tocco da Casauria the 180,000 euros a year revenue from the wind turbines subsidises many council services and is used as collateral for major projects.
In Ancarano, municipality and residents are all investing in a greener solar powered future.
Everyone – municipalities, residents, businesses – trusts the technology because they can see it working and bringing benefits to the entire region.
