Trish:

It’s past time to stop using foreign oil! Maybe we will always need some oil, but we just have to stop depending on Middle East oil. There are 3 fairly easy things that all of us can do now to make a difference. 1- Stop pumping gas into your car! If you have a gas guzzler now, convert it into an electric car (see this blueprint for example). No more gas! 2- Stop using electricity off the electric grid! Either build solar panels (like this one), or build a cheap magnetic generator (like this one). Not very hard! 3- Learn to bike or walk! If you are only going a mile to the shop, walk or bike there. My 2 cents.

That’s some useful information there; never really examined it from that point of view; i think more debate on subjects like this make the article more credible.

Photovoltaics and solar power offer the best blend of ease, cost and maintenance compared to wind and just about any other renewable energy such as biomass.

No. If you used wind power (which in fact is not wind–it’s not the air moving, powered by an outside force–it’s you moving through the air) you would cause a consequent reduction in your own movement. In other words, to use the wind power, you would have to increase the air resistance of your car. This would decrease the efficiency of your engine, and I’m almost certain that this loss of efficiency would be dramatically more than the energy gained from the wind engine.

Yes it is extremely efficient if you know the right place to put a wind farm. But there is a lot of resistance because greedy energy suppliers get all their money from coal. Wind power is cheaper because you do not have to constantly ship the stuff from place to place and it it does not pollute the atmosphere!
