Towards An Early Profitable PowerSat
Successful development of space solar power would provide vast quantities of clean electrical energy for the next few billion years. Such a prize is worth considerable effort and risk. However, the technical difficulties and the huge scale of proposed systems, requiring enormous up front costs and long development times, have prevented Space Solar Power (SSP) from making much progress.
If a way could be found to field a small SSP system profitably, even if limited to niche markets, operational progress could be made with relatively small investments over short time scales. This visualization explores the concept of a “thin-film heliogyro”, a solar sail – as a lower cost approach to producing energy in space and transmitting it to earth as an infrared (IR) power beam.
A SunSat (Powersat) will need four major systems:
1. A system for solar power collection;
2. A system for power beam generation;
3. A system to direct the beam to Earth;
4. A. receiver on the ground to convert the power
beam into electricity.

Solar Balloon Science Fair Project 5 Giant Balloons

My 7th grade science fair project. 5 large solar balloons: 6 Meter Tetrahedron Balloon, 5.5 Meter Tetrahedron, 5 Meter Tetrahedron, 4.5 Meter Tetrahedron, and a 4 Meter Tetrahedron. Balloons are all constructed out of .07 mil black trash bags and masking tape. I used Instamapper app to track the balloons on cheap Boost Mobile phones. www.instamapper.com. I inflated the balloons with a leaf blower. The 4.5 meter balloon got stuck in a tree but blew back out. I repaired it and launched it again. The 4 meter balloon failed to launch because the wind picked up. The 3 largest balloons all reached altitudes above 14,000 meters. I’m 12 and I built an airship that traveled over 53,000 ft high and flew over 500 miles for about $9.50. Question or comments to BlakesBalloonProject@gmail.com
