Hybrid Wind & Solar LED Streetlight
Posted by admin on May 31, 2011
The EFSTONSCIENCE WIND & SOLAR POWERED HYBRID LED STREETLIGHT POLE is a unique stand-alone off-grid street light that produces electricity from the wind and the sun to power a super-bright LED street light!
The HYBRID Streetlights all-in-one design is an environmentally friendly alternative to traditional street lighting systems. This light pole is unique to the market since it is the only hybrid streetlight that uses a Vertical Axis Wind Turbine (VAWT) in combination with solar photovoltaic panels on an articulating frame mount that can be positioned to optimize the exposure to the sun. All of the generated power is stored in batteries located in the base of the pole. The lighting is a high-efficiency LED streetlight that is as bright and intense as a traditional sodium vapor bulb but consumes a fraction of the power. No underground wires, trenching or additional services are required so this off-grid streetlight is fast and easy to install.

Technical considerations for solar energy inverters
Posted by admin on May 31, 2011
Solar power inverters are an integral part of a solar energy system. Though there are many models available in the market today, it is always important to remember the technical details that should be considered when installing your inverters. These are quite necessary to facilitate safety and to improve the efficiency of your solar energy system.
Here are some important considerations when installing your inverter:

· Input voltages – inverters come in 12, 24, and 48 volt designs. As to what type of inverter you would use, this is determined by the wire size and the distance between your solar panels and emergency batteries. The size of the wires you will use become smaller as the voltage generated by your panels become greater. It is also important to remember that the panels, inverter, and emergency battery must all be designed for the same level of voltage.
· Inverter stacking – this refers to using more than one inverter for your solar energy system. The advantage of using two or more inverters is that you can maximize the power or voltage generated by your solar panels. The circuit connection has a lot to do with this. If you connect your inverters in series circuit, you can increase your voltage by two times. If you connect your inverters in parallel circuit, you can increase your power (watts) by two times.
· The number of solar panels and emergency batteries in your system – this effectively increases the input voltage that will run through your system and affect the kind of inverter you would have to use.
· Wiring size – refers to the diameter of wire you will use. This is determined by the voltage running through your panels and inverter, and the distance between your main components. The greater the voltage, the smaller the wire size. To accurately compute this, consult design guidelines for wire size and your solar power contractor.
· Power considerations – this is particularly important especially if you have many appliances, if you have emergency batteries, or are planning to invest in net metering. If you want to generate a surplus of AC power from your panels, then you should choose those inverters that are designed to give high power output from your input voltage. Parallel inverter stacking can address the problem of generating surplus watts.
