What are about 10 good things and bad things about solar power energy?

Posted by admin on Jun 24, 2010

please help its for a school project!!

Good:
-Clean Energy
-Zero depletion of fossil fuels
-Free and abundant power source (sun)
-Ability to put array (solar panels) anywhere there is light
-Technology getting better

Bad:
-Cost of installation
-Cost of maintenance
-Size of array (solar panels) for mass power porduction
-Power source isn’t always around (sun)

Solar Power?

Posted by admin on Jun 24, 2010

Hi,

I have some questions about solar power, it’s for a school project. Thanks for all your help in advance.

What is solar power?

How does it work? (Please be as specific as possible and list details)

What is solar power used for? (A list would be great.)

How efficient is solar power?

How cost efficient it is?

What are the advantages and disadvantages?

And anything you find important to share would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Solar power refers to the utilisation of the sunlight for meeting our energy needs, which are otherwise met by electricity or coal, oil, gas etc.

There are several ways for utilising solar power:

- photovoltaic cells for producing electricity (very expensive to set up but maintenance free)

- solar water heaters very popular in several countries to produce hot water

- solar cookers for cooking food

Solar power is environmentally very clean – no carbon dioxide, no radiation, no health hazards etc.

but it is very expensive right now.

where should solar energy, wind power, and geothermal energy systems be located on a farm?

Posted by admin on Jun 24, 2010

Please give a brief description of where each of these should be located on a farm and why.

Solar energy system:

Wind Power system:

Geothermal Energy system:

Thanks

Often solar panels are placed on a roof. If it is on the main house it will also keep the house cooler and electrical wiring lines will be shorter. But if they are on the ground it will be easier to keep the panels clean. In either place it should not be shaded.

A wind power system should be as high as possible and away from trees and buildings that might obstruct the flow of air, but you would not want to locate it so far away that electric lines pose too much resistance.

A geothermal system can be built in many different ways. If there is a pond nearby that is deep enough using this for the ground loops is the cheapest method. Trenches can be dug and a long loop system installed or most commonly two wells can be drilled and water will be pumped from one go through the system and be deposited in another well. The equipment that uses the loop will be located within the house.

Solar Energy HELP??????????

Posted by admin on Jun 24, 2010

I need at least two advantages and disadvantages of solar energy.
I also need some facts about solar energy too.
I need help ASAP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

advantages:
its renewable, doesn’t cause waste, naturally created by sun
disadvantages:
extremly low amounts of energy, very expensive to buy and produce

facts:
using radiation energy, infra red and light. the radiation energy hits the solar panels, the solar panels are made up of certain materials, like silicon. when the radiation energy goes onto it, the atoms are able to release their electrons and this creates electrical current. this is a very vague decription

ha you probibly have hw due tomorow!
