Just a quick update on my system and to show my new 140 watt solar panel, and my new 600 watts grid tie inverter, my meter is a new meter so it doesn’t “spin” backwards however it stops so the power produced by the panels is being consumed at home and it stops the meter adding up and when I have a big load like a washing machine on then if the machine needs 2200 watts then I will only be using 2000 watts, you can buy everything you see on this video from my website or just join the forum:

And is an area of 1 km^2 for a solar power tower enough to produce energy for five houses? can you make an approximation of how much it could supply?
If you want the heat energy, consider tracking mirrors at the site and solar collectors on the houses. If you want electric energy, that area is enough to support a traditional steam turbine, much more cost-effective than photovoltaic. That area is about 15 times the area that Solar One used to generate 10 megawatts in the Mohave Desert, so it could supply a theoretical maximum of 150 megawatts during peak sunshine. That’s probably enough to match the demand of about 25,000 homes. Best bet would be to feed it to the electric power grid.

I also want to stay off the electric grid . It would cost an additional ten thousand dollars to be hooked into it and I want to be independant from utilities. Would solar panels and batteries power lights and T.V , computer , washer dryer ect.
TV, lights and small appliances, yes. Washer, maybe. Dryer, not likely unless it’s gas – consider a clothesline. Electric range or oven, no. Hot tub, no unless it’s converted to a gas heater.
The raw panels are about $3-8 per watt. So for 6Kw figure about $18k for the panels. The charger/inverter and batteries, figure $2-3k more. Figure about $30k including the installation.
You might also consider a generator. The off-grid houses I’ve seen tend to have them, even if they have batteries too. Add $3k for that.
Do you have a creek? Consider small-scale hydro too.
